Webgate.io error description from Thursday, 22 March 2024

Dear user of Webgate.io,

We would like to inform you about the incident on Thursday, 22 March 2024. At 08:30 CET we noticed that several projects were unexpectedly queued for deletion. After a brief investigation, we realized that a recent software update had inadvertently caused four Webgate.io projects to be deleted. The change was immediately reversed. No data was compromised, the error was solely due to an internal software update.

We were faced with the decision of manually restoring the deleted projects, which would have been very time-consuming, or importing the last database dump. However, the latter would have meant losing all changes in Webgate.io for the last ten hours.

At 10:30 am we decided to import the database dump from 22/03/2024 at 00:30 am, which meant that all changes between 00:30 am and 10:30 am were undone. We have published a notification about the problem.

Although the structure of the deleted projects was restored, the data had to be restored from our backup servers in Helsinki. We began restoring the data immediately, with the last project backup expected to be restored on Tuesday 26 March.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and will thoroughly analyze the incident to avoid similar problems in the future.

Yours sincerely,
The Webgate.io Team
